TRS-STAR presents first standard COM with Freescale CPU

TRS-STAR, a member of the MSC Group, breaks new ground: In future, the company not only offers components from Freescale, but also brings to market for the first time complete solutions - in computer-on-module (COM) form - based on Freescales energy-saving Power Architecture™. The first product is the TRS CXC-MPC8544 module, which is available as a standard assembly and thus also allows projects with medium quantities to be cost-effectively implemented with shorter time-to-market.

The powerful TRS CXC-MPC8544 computer-on-module (COM) is built with an energy-saving MPC8544 PowerQUICC™ III Processor. In addition to its high communication performance and diverse connection possibilities (including Gigabit Ethernet and PCI Express), the COM module particularly excels with a low power dissipation of less than 10 watts. The compact board essentially complies with features of the PICMG defined COM Express™ signal specification. The main fields of use for the fanless module are network applications, e.g. application secure gateways, firewalls, storage array networks and protocol converters as well as industrial controls and medical devices.

TRS-STAR is "Gateway" for Freescale products as well as VAR and Alliance Partner of Freescale Semiconductor. Up to now, in addition to peripheral components and sensors from Freescale, the company has concentrated primarily on the 32-bit microprocessors ColdFire®, Power Architecture™ and i.MX/ARM®.

With the TRS CXC-MPC8544 module, TRS-STAR can now, for the first time, offer a complete solution based on the Freescale architecture. Ingo Widmann, director marketing Freescale products at TRS-STAR GmbH is pleased: “We are now in a position to deliver complete board level solutions to our customers with which new designs can be quickly and cost-effectively implemented - also for projects with small and medium quantities.”
